tuna VIGILANTE

Also known as Skipjack Tuna. This fish is distinguished from other species by the presence of 4 or 6 highly visible longitudinal stripes along its side, going from the belly and flanks to the tail. Its sides are dark blue with purple streaks, the belly and lower flanks are silver.

It has very short pectoral and ventral fins, and its dorsal fins are separated by a small gap at the base. These fish have small, conical teeth. They measure between 40 and 70 centimeters (15.7-27.55 inches), although there are specimens that can reach up to 1 meter (39.3 inches).

This species is typically found in open oceans. It is present in tropical and subtropical waters all over the world, being particularly characteristic of the tropical areas of the Atlantic. Skipjack tuna accounts for 50% of the tuna caught globally.
