Sardina pilchardus

We always use the species Sardina pilchardus in our canned sardine products. This fish belongs to the Clupeidae family. It is easily distinguished by the blueish color of its dorsal area and silver belly. It is a very common species along the Spanish coasts, measuring up to 25 cm (9.8 inches).

It is the quintessential oily fish, is more fatty, energy-dense, and has more fat-soluble vitamins than white fish.
